Renegades Radio Podcast – Handicapping the 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees, Part I

Dave Matthews

The Renegades Radio Podcast called an audible this time around. Instead of our look at One Hit Wonders (don’t worry, we put that on the back burner for the future), we’ve decided to have a two-part episode on the latest nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!

There are 16 nominees this year for the Rock Hall and they are broken down into two distinct categories. In the first segment of the Renegades Radio Podcast, we’ll delve into those artists that were nominated that aren’t your “traditional” rock artists – those who were more pop, soul, R&B or other genres that don’t get recognized as “rock & roll.” In these eight artists, there are definitely two that will get in this year…but who are they? Listen in as we deliberate on the latest nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!

JonBonJoviJoeElliott

There have been 221 artists and groups that have been enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. As with any group, there have to be the best…and the worst…of the inductees. In the first of a two-part episode of the Renegades Radio Podcast, we’re going to examine the rankings of those 221 members of the Rock Hall.

In Part I, we’re going to look at those who are considered to be the WORST of the inductees into the Rock Hall, and there are some surprises. Do you agree with rock historians and critics, who were responsible for compiling this list? Or are they off their rockers? Let us know by listening to this episode of the Renegades Radio Podcast and getting in touch with us afterwards!

Metallica’s James Hetfield Back in Rehab, Forcing Postponement of Tour Dates

JamesHetfield

Unfortunately, fans of Metallica in Australia and New Zealand are going to have to put their plans on seeing the band on tour on hold for a bit.

According to reports from the band’s website, singer/guitarist James Hetfield has reentered rehab. Hetfield has long battled the demons of drug and alcohol usage and,  according to fellow band members, “had to reenter a treatment program to work on his recovery again.” The trip to rehab will postpone several dates the band had scheduled in October and November in Australia and New Zealand.

Renegades Radio Podcast – Remembering CBGBs

CBGBs

It was THE club in New York City. It was the place where a litany of the greatest punk, rock, and alternative acts got their start, from Patti Smith to Blondie to Talking Heads. And it also disappeared too soon, gone in a fit of greed, never to be seen again.

On this episode of the Renegades Radio Podcast, we’re taking a look back in time and remembering the legendary club CBGBs. From the 1970s to the 2000s, the club served as the launching pad for some of the biggest names in music. Join us as we tell some of the stories and jam to some of the most creative artists in the history of rock!

Renegades Radio Podcast – A (Brief) History of Southern Rock

LynyrdSkynyrd

As one of the subgenres of rock music, Southern rock is a hodgepodge of many musical genres. Melding hard rock, country, blues, bluegrass and even a bit of gospel, Southern rock began in the 50s and emerged as a powerhouse in the 70s. With groups like the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Southern rock became a staple of the airwaves on both pop and rock radio.

As the 80s and 90s came along, however, Southern rock began to fade from the fore. Today, it is but a shell of its former self, with only a few new practitioners standing alongside some of the “old guard” of the genre. Why has it gone away? As we look at a brief history of Southern rock on the Renegades Radio Podcast, we’ll examine why it was popular and why, at this mark in the 21st century, it is struggling for a spot in the limelight.
